FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Scottsdale, Ariz. - September 23, 2009 - The Arizona Institute for Breast Health (AIBH), an
Arizona breast cancer non-profit, announces the selection of the
2009 Pink Light Award Recipient, who will have the honor of flipping the switch the
evening of October 1st at
The Pink Light District Lighting Ceremony to illuminate
the thousands of Pink Honor Lights that are adorned on the Canal Bridge in downtown Scottsdale.
Executive Director of AIBH, Christine Lessard, just announced, "We received many beautiful and heartfelt essays
submitted by men and women nominating breast cancer survivors, supporters and people who have made a difference in the fight against
this disease. It was very moving to read about each nominee, which made the selection process very difficult."
The Selection Committee reviewed each essay in detail, and selected one very special essay written by a breast cancer survivor herself,
Christia Gibbons of Tempe. Christia's essay said volumes about her nominee's strength, courage, and generous spirit, as she not only
battled breast cancer as well, but how she supported Christia throughout her ordeal. Lessard stated, "It is with great pleasure that I announce Cheryl Speen
of Mesa as the 2009 Pink Light Award Recipient!"
Gibbons has been invited to read her essay at the Lighting Ceremony with Speen by her side, prior to the illumination of the lights. "It will be a wonderful
opportunity to honor both of these special women," according to Lessard.
The Institute is also still accepting sponsorships for Pink Honor Lights at
www.ThePinkLightDistrict.org. People nationwide are recognizing individuals who have gone through breast cancer and others who have made a difference in the life of someone touched
by breast cancer. Others are simply showing their support in the fight against this horrible disease by sponsoring a Pink Honor Light. A special Tribute Card is immediately emailed to each Honoree
and every Pink Light Sponsorship is 100% tax deductible. All honorees are recognized on the AIBH website in the Pink Light District Honor Album.
