Arizona Breast Cancer Non-profit Celebrates 10 Years of Service

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Scottsdale, Ariz. - February 20, 2008 -
he Arizona Institute for Breast Health (AIBH), an Arizona breast cancer non-profit, that provides a second opinion for treatment options to women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, is celebrating their 10th year of service.

Physicians and medical professionals in the Valley have been volunteering their time for the past 10 years for the Institute to give all women the opportunity to receive the best possible information regarding treatment options for breast cancer. "Founded by medical professionals and supported entirely by donations, AIBH has assisted thousands of women throughout Arizona, empowering them with knowledge about their breast cancer diagnosis along with treatment options specific to their case," states Christine Lessard, executive director for the Institute. The service is completely free of charge and is even available to men who are diagnosed as well.

There is an abundance of information about breast cancer available through the Internet, medical publications and on TV, but it can be very confusing and sometimes even inaccurate. AIBH has found over these past 10 years that when women come through the service looking for this important second opinion, many times they are confused and frightened. "Reviewing their diagnosis, on a case by case basis, allows our medical board to offer the best recommendation based on health history, age, stage of breast cancer found and desires of the patient," according to Lessard.

Another goal of the Institute is to offer education about breast cancer because catching it early is still the key. With the increasing number of women being diagnosed today, "Having a yearly mammogram is still the most important first step in diagnosing this disease and catching it early. Good breast health practices keep us one step ahead should a problem arise," according to Dr. Belinda Barclay-White, a board certified radiologist, owner of Arizona Breastnet and AIBH founder.

The odds of getting breast cancer for women living to 85 years old is 1 in 8, according to the American Cancer Society. In recent years, there's been an explosion of life-saving treatment advances against breast cancer, bringing new hope to women being diagnosed. Since breast cancer does not discriminate, AIBH offers their services to all women so they have a place to go for a second opinion for treatment options, for education about the disease and for support through this most difficult time.

The Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and can be reached at 480-860-4200 or www.aibh.org
