ARIZONA WOMEN GOLFERS UNITE IN FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Scottdale, Ariz. - September 19, 2006 - Mo Cruikshank made
the rounds at Arizona Women's Golf Association (AWGA) events almost
as frequently as she played the local greens. Serving as a volunteer
and master of ceremonies for more than a decade, she enjoyed uniting
women through the sport. In 2002, Mo succumbed after a bout with
breast cancer but the AWGA continues to unite women through the Mo
Cruikshank Memorial Golf Tournament. Held October 23, 2006 at the
prestigious Rim Golf Club in Payson, Arizona, the charity tournament
benefits the Arizona Institute for Breast Health (AIBH).
AIBH is a Scottsdale-based, non-profit group that offers women
diagnosed with breast cancer the opportunity for a second opinion
of their diagnosis and education on treatment options and
prevention strategies free of charge.
"Mo was an active member of AWGA and she went through the AIBH
program during her fight with breast cancer," said Rosie Beale,
AWGA Secretary. "It's because of her that this cause that is so
close to our hearts."
The Mo Cruikshank Memorial Golf Tournament is the only charity
tournament sponsored by AWGA, a statewide organization with more
than 25,000 members. The tournament is expected to attract a
record turnout, with women golfers coming from all over the
state and even California to compete. The tournament is
hosted by the Rim Golf Club in Payson, a par 71 championship
golf course that was ranked by Golfweek Magazine as the "#1 Residential
Golf Course West of the Carolinas" and has also been honored
as the "Top Private Golf Course in Arizona."
"The Rim Golf Club generously supports this event by donating
the use of the course and the delicious food served during the
day," said Jackie Myers, AIBH Board President. "Their
contribution is helping bring services to people in need
in our community."
"At last year's tournament," Myers said, "a rainbow
appeared in the late afternoon sky which was interpreted
by many as an indication of Mo Cruikshank's approval."
To sign up as a player, contact the AWGA at 602.253.5655 or
visit their website at www.awga.org. The Mo Cruikshank Golf
Tournament welcomes further sponsors for the event. For
sponsorship or prize donation information, contact Mary Fran
Cruikshank at 480.624.6229.
