Gypsy Riders Present $10,000 to Arizona Institute for Breast Health
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Phoenix, ARIZ - December 8, 2005 - A local women's motorcycle club,
the Gypsy Riders, is helping women diagnosed with breast
cancer receive free multi-disciplinary second opinions.
The club donated $10,000 raised from its inaugural Bikers
Ball this November 18th to the Arizona Institute for Breast Health (AIBH).
AIBH is a Scottsdale-based, non-profit group dedicated to
improving treatment outcomes for breast cancer patients.
Patients are evaluated, free of charge, by a team of
physicians whose specialties include breast radiology,
breast surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology,
reconstructive surgery, breast pathology, oncology
rehabilitation, counseling, nutrition, exercise and
stress management.
"This contribution will help many women get the information
they need to make the best possible treatment choices," said
AIBH Executive Director Chris Lessard. "We thank the Gypsy
Riders for their wonderful generosity. The Bikers Ball was
a tremendous success."
Biker Ball co-chairs Christine Bell and Shirley Mattson
agreed, stating that the fundraising results exceeded
their expectations. Proceeds from the Bikers Ball were
presented Wednesday, December 7 at a special ceremony at
the AIBH board of directors. The meeting was attended by
Bikers Ball Committee members and local chopper builder
Ed Whittley of Firebird Custom Choppers of Apache Junction.
The Gypsy Riders teamed with Whittley to create a
one-of-a-kind custom chopper called The Survivor
that will be raffled off to further benefit AIBH.
The Survivor Bike was designed and built by Whittley
to honor his grandmother who passed away from breast
cancer. A maximum of 5,000 raffle tickets are being
sold for $20 each. The winner will be drawn on
April 9, 2006 as part of Arizona Bike Week's closing ceremony.
