Pink Light District Returns to Scottsdale!

July 20, 2008 by Editor of East Valley Living

Scottsdale, Ariz. - The Arizona Institute for Breast Health (AIBH), an Arizona breast cancer non-profit, just announced the return of The Pink Light District, their annual fundraiser coming this fall, giving individuals a unique way to honor all those touched by breast cancer.

Wendy Farrelli, Co-Chair of this event, is very pleased that due to the success of the initiative last year, the organization will be bringing the event back to the Valley! According to Farrelli, "From August 1st through October 31st, individuals will have the opportunity to purchase pink light bulbs for $20 each in recognition of those affected by breast cancer. These light bulbs will once again be placed on the Canal Bridge, which links the Scottsdale Waterfront to the Southbridge District in downtown Scottsdale and will be illuminated on October 3rd at the lighting ceremony, The Pink Light District." The ceremony is sponsored by Olive and Ivy and will be held the evening of the 3rd as supporters and survivors look on.

This unique fundraiser is an opportunity for individuals to show their appreciation, to give thanks and to honor those touched by breast cancer in a most unusual way. When a Pink Honor Light is purchased, the Honoree designated will receive a Tribute Card emailed to them with a special message from their supporter and their name will appear in the Pink Light District Honor Album on the AIBH website, www.AIBH.org

These Pink Honor Lights will glow throughout October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, in tribute to breast cancer survivors and to all who have supported a loved one or friend when battling this disease. "Having gone through breast cancer almost 13 years ago, looking at all the pink lights in honor of the many survivors and supporters brings me to tears," says Christine Lessard, Executive Director of the organization. All funds raised from this event go directly to supporting women who are dealing with a breast cancer diagnosis.

Fundraising is an important aspect of AIBH because the Institute provides a second opinion for treatment options to women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, completely free of charge. This fundraiser is a unique way to bring attention to the cause and to AIBH. Physicians and medical professionals volunteer their time for the Institute each week, which was created to give all women the opportunity to receive the best possible information regarding treatment options for breast cancer. Since breast cancer does not discriminate, AIBH offers their services to all women so they have a place to go for a second opinion for treatment recommendations, for education about the disease and for support through this most difficult time. To purchase a Pink Honor Light starting August 1st, go to www.ThePinkLightDistrict.org.

The Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and can be reached at 480-860-4200 or www.AIBH.org.
